Located just south of Houston, Shadow Creek High School is CMTA's most successful Texas school. It is part of Alvin Independent School District, one of the state’s fastest-growing school districts. This three-story, 550,000 square foot facility is designed for 2,500 students. The site is 72 acres and includes a softball field, baseball field, competition football field and practice field, track, tennis courts, natatorium, concession stand, and onsite maintenance building. This new high school includes numerous nontraditional learning spaces that encourage students to develop critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication and citizenship. The intent of the facility is to provide the students skills necessary for college and the 21st century workforce.
CMTA’s scope of work included all MEP design, commissioning and low voltage design, including the IT network, security systems, surveillance system, PA System, local sound systems and fire alarm systems. CMTA also designed the fire protection system and the sports lighting systems for the athletic fields.
The primary HVAC system consists of 28 chilled water air handling units with fan-powered VAV terminal boxes with electric heat. The system also includes 10 energy recovery outdoor air units, two 275-ton and two 550-ton water-cooled chillers, and four cooling towers piped to a variable primary chilled water system. Outside air is controlled by a demand control ventilation system that measures the amount of carbon dioxide in the space and provides outdoor air as needed.
A winner of the prestigious William Caudill Award in 2018 for excellence in planning and design of the learning environment, this school opened in 2016.
