This project is a Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract for Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Campus-wide, 10 buildings received major upgrades, while 31 buildings received LED lighting upgrades. This project was 80% funded through energy and operational savings.
Project highlights include the installation of solar panels for one building, relocation and upgrade of the chiller plant, new central hot water boiler plant, new hot water boilers in three buildings, and new direct digital HVAC control systems.
The project scope includes:
A 90.44 kW DC solar photovoltaic array was installed on the roof of the Kent Campus Center
A new campus chiller plant with two high-efficiency magnetic-bearing chillers was installed, with the capacity for a third chiller as needed for campus expansion
A new central hot water boiler plant, including high-efficiency condensing boilers, replaced the steam plant that was beyond its useful life and serves Dunn Library, Pfeiffer Dining Hall, Wallace Hall, and Barker Hall
New hot water boilers installed in the ATO, KTP, and SAE fraternity dormitories
Wallace Hall received a full HVAC renovation
New direct digital controls systems were installed in 10 buildings
Commissioning of existing HVAC control systems in various buildings to improve operational efficiency
New LED lamps and light fixtures installed throughout campus
CMTA identified billing errors worth $273,000 that was refunded
