To address H1N1/“Swine Flu” challenges and better prepare for a future of potential outbreaks, Salem Hospital asked CMTA to design and renovate an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and inpatient bed units throughout the Davenport building in 2009. In response, CMTA designed an HVAC system that allows normal patient rooms to convert into negatively pressurized isolation rooms, which ultimately preparing the largest emergency care facility on the North Shore to be COVID-19 “surge ready” when the demand required several isolation rooms.
