Balfour Beatty to Build $240M Virginia Student Housing

The College of William & Mary expects to break ground this month on their $240 million campus housing project. CMTA worked with VMDO architects, Balfour Beatty's Buildings division, and Kjellstrom+Lee on this project, providing MEP and fire protection engineering services, as well as sustainability consulting.

In 2022, the College of William & Mary solicited a public-private partnership agreement (P3) for the design of two new housing developments and a dining hall on its Williamsburg campus. These residence halls will provide approximately 1,200 beds as a part of their West Woods, Lemon, and Hardy Halls. The buildings are expected to open in the fall of 2025.

The project will not only maximize the existing assets within the William & Mary portfolio, but it is set to align with their goal of being carbon-neutral by 2030. The largest contribution to the carbon neutral goals are the energy recovery systems, geothermal system that eliminates combustibles on-site, and the rooftop solar array to offset combustion from utilities.
