The Louisville City Football Club is striving to be the top team in the USL (United Soccer League) with the best facilities and fanbase. That's why this club built a new $65 million, 15,304-seat capacity stadium in Louisville’s historic Butchertown District. When it opened for the 2020 season, the stadium anchored a new commercial development district with plans for hotel, office, restaurant, and retail space that will revitalize a previously industrial area. The focal point of the stadium design is an iconic canopy covering the seating bowl that celebrates and reflects the surrounding neighborhood and its heritage.
The design team was tasked with creating a top-tier playing environment for competitions, as well as offering amenities and technology that provide fans an unparalleled experience. The unique canopy design required a purposeful approach to integrate elements of the sports lighting, distributed sound and storm water drainage systems into the structure. Featuring the latest in LED sports lighting technology, theatrical effects amplify energy in the stadium during competitions. Other key MEP design elements include an underground beverage pathway system, turf heating and drainage systems and an extensive array of stadium technology that includes over $3 million of video displays and distributed infrastructure to enable high quality production of HDTV broadcasts.
