The newly constructed Thorntons Store Support Center is a two-story, 90,000 SF corporate office built for the Thorntons Inc. Support Department in Louisville, Kentucky. The facility holds administration offices, a designated exercise area, a test kitchen, a full kitchen, staff restaurant, IT servers, conference spaces, and a large central two-story lobby with a gas fireplace. The fireplace is specifically designed to add heat to the space in the winter months only.
Geothermal heating and cooling was incorporated with energy recovery dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) units placed on the roof. Electrical power monitoring and a variable flow geothermal water system were installed as well. Several spots in the ceiling were left open to expose the ductwork and heat-pumps so they could be located above clouds.
